The Near Death Exerience

Sunday we had quite the horrific event! I was down in our apartment trying to put Madi to sleep and my grandma came down and told me that our neighbor had just come over to let us know that we had a horse caught in something. In past experience I just assumed one of the horses had gotten a shoe stuck in the fence while pawing for food. So I took Madi up stairs and started out to the porch and saw my horse, Dancer, all jacked up behind the 4wheeler trailers. I just ran out through the snow without shoes on still holding on to Madi. My neighbor Robin stopped me half way there and told me not to go over there because her leg was broken. I about lost it! Those of you that know me know that next to my family, my horses are my life! Dancer is my baby and the thought of losing her was not something I wanted to think about! I took Madi back inside and gave her to my grandma and went down stairs to call Bryon. I broke down and told him that he needed to come home because I thought we were going to have to put Dancer down. I went back out side to help but I couldn't look at her so I just held on to George, our other horse who was out with Dancer. It kept her calm to have him next to her, so I just sat and held him while all of the neighbors tried to free her from the pallets on the trailers. I guess what had happened was George got to pushin' Dancer around and scared her back behind our two 4 wheeler trailers that we had one on top of the other. The top trailer had a stack of old pallets on them and she got her back leg stuck through 2 of them. Then while trying to free herself she got her other shoe stuck in the chainlink fence, so she didn't have either of her back feet on the ground. The way she was stuck her legs were twisted up weird and it was forcing her to basically sit sideways on the trailer. The neighbors were breaking the boards from the pallets to try to free her. After completely breaking down the 2 pallets and pulling her other shoe, she finally got free but wouldn't get up off the trailer. At this point we were all worried that she had broken at least a leg and probably her hip. I still couldn't look at her. After a bit of rough persuasion, she got up but wouldn't put her leg down. We tried to walk her out and as we were a fire truck pulls up. Aparently, in all of the hysteria, my neighbor called 911 and the emergency vet. When the fire truck showed up and saw Dancer was up they called off the reinforcements that were on their way. I was SO embarassed! The Vet showed up about 5 minutes later and gave her a thorough check up. Other than several cuts she appeard to be ok. She had definitely torn up the muscles in her back end and blood will drain and cause a hematoma to build on her stifle, he said that there was still a possibility that she had broken a bone in her hip but that it wasn't a big deal and she would be ok. Everything appeared to be superficial. She has to be closed in her her stall which she hates and we have to clean her wounds morning and night and keep her on bute. I am just so happy that my baby is going to be ok! I am also pleased that I am no longer the queen of over reacting! I will gladly pass that torch on to Robin! Ü

THE AFTERMATH

The blood covered snow at the scene of the crime

This is what was left of the two pallets. Yikes what a mess!

Madi's first meal...Yum Yum

We took Madisyn in for her 6 month check up and were given the green light to start her on baby food. We have been looking forward to this day for a LONG time! We had our video camera and picture camera ready as not to miss a single minute. She was adorable! She tried to suck on the spoon like a bottle and it took her a minute to figure out what was happening but when she did, man watch out! She was a little piglet! She ended up with food all over! We had fed her bananas and she acted like she was in heaven! I couldn't believe how good she did.

The next bottle of food that we tried to feed her was peas. Madi was not quite as impressed with those as she was the banana's. Bryon and I had a movie date planned for Saturday afternoon and Madi hung out with Kevin and Tenille. They attempted to feed her the peas and she ended up boycotting eating all together! She wouldn't eat food again until Sunday morning when I bribed her to eat with bananas and applesauce. I thought Madi wasn't ever going to find something that she loved as much as bananas, I was wrong. That kid can put the applesauce away! She ate more in one sitting than she has eaten all week.

Happy Anniversary!

Bryon and I had our one year anniversary on January 19, 2008. Since we NEVER go out to any nice restaurants we decided that we should at least go to one to celebrate our anniversary. Since there is nothing better than a big ole steak we decided to go to The Five Alls. We had reservations at 5:30 and got there a little bit early. We had heard that they feed you A LOT so we prepared by basically fasting all day so when we got there and the door was still locked, I thought my stomach was going to eat itself! Finally after sitting in the car for about ten minutes they opened up shop and we were in business. The food there was AMAZING! We both had different versions of the fillet minion. All I can say is WOW! We were in heaven! It is funny but the highlight of the dinner was the home-made cookie they serve with the bill. It was UNBELIEVABLE! It makes seeing the amount due a bit more bareable! Ü I will have to recommend that anyone looking for a really good steak dinner, look no further than The Five Alls!
